too overpowered

Explain

what, you want an unlimited source of ignition in your pocket that doesn't require recharge or replacement? too overpowered

which is why i made the option for it to use a piece of parchment as fuel, that way its not an unlimited source of fire, or if it does not use parchment as fuel, it still needs to be done during the day, which is pretty limiting as you can only use it for half the amount of time you play. also making fire is not difficult, just either time consuming or resource consuming, in this case you would still need to create the magnifying glass, and if using the second option, you would still need parchment to make it work, it also takes more time than normal lighting does, i do not see how it is too overpowered, and i've provided a few reasonable options to implement it, perhaps if you actually read the post you would have noticed that.

Parchment doesn't burn well. It's not paper, it's leather stretched very thin. Still, kindling could be made from straw or various different fibers.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

still overpowered
parchment is too cheap of a material compared to other fire-starting options(steel, sulfur)

well then we could do what magic suggested, make some form of kindling out of hay and twigs. it could also have a wear system like the flint and steel does as an alternative.

the point of discussions are supposed to be alternate ways to do things, not just saying "your idea is bad and it shouldnt be used"

also discussions are supposed to be more than someone replying with a single word not adding anything constructive to the subject at hand, you didnt even take into consideration the wear system i suggested, nor are you taking into consideration that it can only be used during the day. now that i have gained some ideas, a new version would be something along the lines of:
a magnifying glass that could have a wear system(if deemed necessary), it must be used during the day, and it could have some form of fuel (paper, parchment, kindling), perhaps instead of the magnifying glass having the wear system(since it dosnt make much sense), the kindling is the one with the wear on it, and instead of using just twigs and hay, it also uses a piece of brimstone, then gains a small amount of uses as an alternative to matches(matches requiring three brimstone, kindling would only require one).

if your saying twigs and hay is overpowered maybe you should just rub sticks together for the rest of your firestarting days.

The it dosn't cost 2-6 branches argument is pointless, branches are free to pick everywhere.
Or you cut a random tree to have enough fire starter for a loooong time, even without a metal axe.

I like the idea, gives a useless item one - even when it takes a minute or two to light a fire, or longer in case you have to wait for sunrise.

I think its a good idea.
It could work like this:
Only works during in-game day
Works like firebrand but no stamina drain. (Right click a fire, wait for a bit, then it either lights up or not)

When weather is added, it could only work when sun is shining, not when its rainy or cloudy etc.

We already have swords with never get blunt or broken. Houses that never need any maintenance etc.
So I dont see any issue with it not getting broken when it is used.
