there are pros and cons for both players and devs.
Lets say you would be able to convert tokens into 3$ store credit, on the paper it seems like a good deal for devs, but there is also a problem, most successful traders from previous worlds, especially world 10, have gathered hundreds, and some even close to a thousand tokens that i personally know of. So people like that will have on average about 2k $ worth of store credit right away, and will never have to spend money on the game ever again, same people who would otherwise purchase multiple hats if they really like them for decorative purposes. But then again if they trade this world, they may trade for those hats from players for pretty much free (ingame currency that they can easily make, or craftable items).
There is no problem in making tokens into a store credit, as it already does work like that, people trade hats for tokens, or hats / tokens for coins anyways... some people even sell tokens and hats for real money. So if you were to chose in between two evils, I'd say converting tokens into store credit is more legit than people selling thokens for $, at least money would go to devs and not on people's paypal to buy drugs from ebay! Just need a reasonable conversion rate, and as long as you make it impossible to purchase Bronze, Silver or Golden subs with the store credit, that would be fine, otherwise no one will ever by hats from the store ever again, due to dozens of subscription alts from all the token money. No one wants to see hat economy in ruins! But all in all, if taken seriously and implemented carefully, this will promote more trading and more money spending in game for the game development.
