Dont be discouraged dude, with limited hours to play you have to make the most of the time you have. It's both the most frustrating and also the most motivating part of the game for us casuals. If I were you, I'd invest a little time up front and set up a quick farm to farm exp. It's a basic chair table cliff and stuff but I can get in some fast exp. It's one of the chores you have to weave into your character. Like checking chickens and shit.

im not saying how the game should be played im saying the other ways to gain exp other then questing needs buffed. i mean prime time right now is 307 players when a few months ago it was 1800+ now im not saying all those quit because of exp but i am saying from the dozens of people who i spoke to it all came down to the amount of time it takes to be competitive and how harsh food was once you die you cant catch up.

there are other ways of playing this game other then questing hopefully those will be worked on to make questing a side thing instead of required to be competitive the questing timegate was a great addition but more work is required if the servers are to retain more then 300 people after a few months of being up!

Back when Mirkwood Offerings were great again I've run my first character into the ground by depleting all my exp in a day, popping Mirkwoods like tic-tacs. Had to create a new char :< Didn't quit tho. But that was a close one.

That's true. Burning through your first 1k exp is pretty awful. Mirkwoods are clearly for burning exp though. Players should be told somehow not to study them early on.

like i said i didnt say they where quitting because of exp i said from those who i spoke to where quitting because being competitive in this game required far 2 much time the questing timegate should help some but again like i said there needs to be more work done on player retention most everyone has a job and a life.

Just... more variety in your tasks in a day. Don't do just "one job." I'm not sure how many times that has to be repeated. hell, don't even touch quests or the credo system.... just... do more variety. I could get 0 xp from quests, though, and still make lots of xp because I'm out doing a wide variety of tasks.

As a hermit I can tell you that by doing just about all the stuff around the base like planting few seeds, harvesting wheat, some digging, chopping a tree, removing a stump etc you can sit on a massive exp gain - i dont do quests and got 24k exp atm

agreed

the cost of hearth magic like dig deeper or gilding song is way too high!
