They are lacking time to do game desing, team definitely should be raised by gamedesigner and qa.

Current timer feels like it would be justified for rare and valuable resources like Icicles and Rock Crystals, but not for other less valuable resources that spawn in higher numbers.

Make localized resources spawn their goods as boulder that has to be chipped to get item, that way you have to lift it and take to safer place. Problem solved.
Ofc it's a bit stupid to make leaf embedded in rock so if that's too stupid you have some idea. Maybe some sort of magical chest.
