That honestly sounds like a great idea. They could also take baths in fountains, and maybe we could even build birdhouses so they hang around. With different combos of houses and feed we could attract various songbirds, which would add some nice ambiance audio to our bases. Speaking of which, why don't our roosters crow at dawn?

Anyway, if it has to have some practical use rather than just decorative, you could get experience events for seeing every different type of bird if you buy Birdwatching skill.
