If seasons were on a short cycle, say a few days each (a week, maybe 8 days per "year"), it might not be too bad. The problem would be that, as it stands, you'd HAVE to get on and gather your crop before winter leaving you a small window that not everyone gets to have. (Maybe carrots, onions and such become true biannuals. Harvest for food, or leave growing for seed.)

As it is, with the current season rotation, no, not a good idea.

Maybe make crops grow in Quality only when harvesting in proper season? In other seasons, it wont grow q / will be random + or - in q, like it is now. That would fix the problem that farmers need to plant everything all the time.
This way if you need, for example a shitload of flax, you can still grow it, but it won't grow in Q.

As someone who gardens in real life? Yes. There are times of year where the plant will not have sufficient time to grow to maturity. Some plants have to be planted in later fall to sprout in the spring.

But mostly? It's about grow time. Without sufficient time to grow from seed, they won't be able to produce before winter kills them.

I'm a big gardener in real life too and I think this boils down to the climate you are in more than anything. The idea of insufficient grow time is already sort of present in haven so I was more referring to the difference between spring to fall, and I think that assuming your crop has full time to mature, that the temperature variance between these 3 seasons would be inconsequential unless you live in a very cold climate for most crops.

Our setting for Haven is a mock Norway.

Very Cold Climate confirmed.
