Every god damn new world you cannot resist the ideas that get suggested to make long-term players happy, in lieu of building up your own idealistic no-fun no-exploration world.

I've been playing since World 3, so that 'long-term player' thing you talk about? I'm one of them. I've missed all of one world.

It's *different* fun and exploration that requires thought and planning rather than just 'I'll go as far as I can before I have to log off and then hearth home'. Teleportation utterly guts any sense of real locality, it essentially makes all parts of the world 'right next door' as the game ages.

That is... disappointing and boring on so many levels. Why not just eliminate traveling to trade all together and request barter tables with infinite listings that connect to a global market where trade can take place from the safety of your village.

In essence... Why not just play WoW?

I just checked my original profile on here (BWithey) and discovered that your account, Vigilance, is in fact older than mine by a matter of 5 months. We are, in essence, of equal antiquity as players.

You also play for only a couple months tops instead of all year. These fast travel implementations cater to those people that actually play for LONG TERMS.

Almost all of the people still playing are veteran players. Including me, who has been around longer than you. I just know that gameplay drops the fuck off when people stop wanting to cross the forest all the way to the mountain versus using a roadsign. Same principle for this suggestion.

I simply do not understand the point of having such a magnificently large world if all we're going to do is teleport across it.

Teleportation != Fast Travel

Knarrs/Boats = Fast Travel, Horses = Fast Travel, Wagons/Knarrs = Fast Travel.

Teleportation isn't fast travel... It's a wrinkle in time and it's nauseating.

IIRC in W11 around 300 will allows to charter teleport to midrabbit from every continent so it is not that hard. I'd say we have already just enough of fast travel. No need to push the balance either direction.
There should be some education about using tobacco instead.

You can already do it to some extent and I like that it takes effort (or materials) to do that instead of having little work for THAT quick fast travel.

please talk to me after you can continue playing a world for longer than 4 months and start suffering an RSI from all your copious spam clicking traveling

Buy eye tracking equipment and make custom client that moves your character to some place when you look at it and blink.

I'd rather see buoys as water equivalent to road milestones.
