legitimatly good idea
everybody knows the importance of first impressions, having the world be so barren looking at the start was an issue i've honestly never even thought about, because obviously if you've played the game you know that this all changes when you raise your per*explo but a noob ain't gonna know that or to what extent the change would be even if they did. i know some people with notoriously low attention spans too.

Thats good as you stated it, but later theese mystery herbs could be used in gaining explo somewhat.
Or I like idea of study xMystery Herbs for forager credo.

Super good idea.

Would be cool if all foregables showed up as a generic grass (could put 10 together for basic string?) And there should be a one time experience explaining the need for perception and exploration to find out what it really is.

Really like this idea. Helps reflect the idea of a new hearthling wandering around examining these weird plants and learning what they are eventually. Perhaps make them have a slight scaling, so that the higher your exploration*perception is, the more LP the Mystery Herb gives (and make that fact visible)? Not a great scaling, but it subtly encourages newer players that "Hey exploration and perception are valuable early game"
