Definitely this. Got to move it back to shore quickly! Since we already have kicksleds and wagons, this should be relatively easy to code, too. The problem, currently, would be if you use that code as a base, you don't get your interior like you do with a house. We'll have to wait for the object thing later.

It will simply sink, or you could move it to shore.

:) ...

Yeah it's nice but I don't think I would feel safe sitting in it and fishing, no idea of who or what is outside the door. Lol. Needs windows all the way around. :D

Or maybe, just maybe, use a "deployable" mechanics like for a spitroast or wrecking ball (or, given that a hut is a big object, raft-like several parts combined into one). You make a hole in the ice, you haul a "fishing hut kit" to it and "deploy" it; when the time comes -- you dismantle the hut and shove it into the furthest palisade corner until next winter.

Heck, even allow it to have quality, give q-dependant fishing bonuses and serve as an additional resource sink.

This sounds reasonable. Resolves the object controlled objects issue. Could also have a different model/animation for when someone is inside, and when it's empty.

Where I grew up on Lake Simcoe, there would literally be 100s of fishing huts out on the ice the second it was thick enough. There was practically a temporary seasonal city out on the ice.

Many people build them so the bottom is like a set of skis that can be dragged over the snow. Imagine a structure you build like something between a cart and a wagon, you pull it with a cow or something?

Anyways, it could be like a tiny 3x3 room inside with some mechanic that maybe even makes it not illegible to even be entered unless it's parked overtop of ice? And maybe you are meant to remove the center ice block with your pick and then it creates a guaranteed fishing spot? Maybe with reduced returns, only seasonal fish available?

... could also do hide yurt like structures as a fishing shelter; it buffs ice fishing speed but not quality, and Crank augers as a requirement for digging through the ice when using indoor fishing holes.
