Well, there are some good points here for sure. Thank you!

The biggest problem i perceive for new players is that one of the first things the will have to learn and will be told by veteran players is "Don't use the default client".
Not only is having to Uninstall and Reinstall the game a step that shouldn't have to be taken, but the existence of basically multiple versions of the game is just a whole other layer of confusion for new players.

I will say that some of the "introduction" elements in Salem were better done than they are here. (Might have been at the insistence of the Paradox overlords of the time?)

Frankly speaking, I think tutorial was improved the most by JC after taking over. It explained basic mechanics by example, in a starting area specifically prepared for this purpose. Also added feature descriptions as players gained access to them, available at any time within the client. And they kept popping up as player was met with new things, even long after tutorial has ended.

But in case of Haven I think the biggest challenge would be keeping the tutorial and descriptions up to date with all the changes being done constantly.

I'm thinking as what was in place while jorbtar were still working on it just so they had an idea of what they'd done in the past and what player's might think of it compared to the current introdcution.

If you guys ever looked at Haven and Hearth posts at r/mmorpg, you'll see that community doesn't care so much about the obtuseness of the game. They have an (outdated?) stigma that griefers have the ability randomly ransack everything you own and actively warn away other potential players with this idea.

There was survival MMO game which name I don't remember that allowed players to play on their private "island" for some time until they were ready for playing in normal world.

Greetings from a new player,

I read about the game on reddit and was looking for a new survival/base building game, so I jumped right in. I like to go in blind and so I just started the game.
Now hear the perspective of a player nearly 4 days old.

It was fun, the starting area I only did what the questlog said, so of course I walked into the fire, what is this charterstone? Do I have to start over???
The next tutorial in the real world was ok, it is a bit short, after eating and drinking it stops when there is so much more to learn...

The bark thing was strange, but I found some birks and moved on, started building a few things but got curious "can everybody loot my things?"
So that was the time I looked a few things up in the wiki, got the yeomannig skill and claimed my first part of land in balders bra...

Building, crafting, studying, trying... that's all I do...

Combat? Holy shit, how does this work? got stomped by a boar and bats, looked the combat thing up, but I am still puzzled how it works. I will try killing ants when I have few points in combat...
Got my first quest yesterday, a talking tree? nice...

So I am excited about the game, I like the pace and the freedom you have in it. Trying to convince a few buddies of mine to try it, already built a beacon for them (unlit of course)

To sum up what I would like for the start:
- tutorial is bit short
- a combat tutorial would be great
- perhaps more birks or more trees with "usable" bark
- clothing? I am still naked except for clogs and a hat :)
- the rest is ok, I like experimenting

English is not my first language, so I am sorry for errors.

Combat is not hard, you just need sword for killing big game.
WIth foxes, badgers, bats you can fight only with punch.

To start combat just get some reinforced bark gear and punch everything. Get shield bcs its cheap and offers some protection even without melee combat. Haven combat is ez, the simplest way to learn it is just go and punch and observe how openings change, knowledge about how it works under the hood won't matter because it won't change your strategy at all, your goal is just to deal damage and kill foe.

Clarification, you can equip shield just for it's armor values and keep using "Chin Up" maneuver. Ants are indeed the easiest enemy to fight and can often be kited (their speed varies.) To safely/effectively kill a bat, you need 15 Agility and 20 Unarmed Combat. Nettle clothes reduce Agility so you may want to go shirtless and pantless, equipping only Bark Reinfoced Sprucecap and Clogs. If you have enough hides you can add Hide Cloak and even use http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Hide_Layer but priority should be to make leather for palisade.

Charterstone stuff is only for spawning in specific place near people you want to play with, you're in the one and only active game world (for the current version, remembered Legacy is still running.)
