You could fix the mechanic rather than discarding it entirely. Adding in-game captcha would go too far, but having a resource cost, having a cooldown on the charter stone/portico used to travel from (and of course not allowing whole rows of porticoes to be built together in a small area, or having the cooldown also apply to other porticoes within a certain range), making the guess take a significant amount of time, or some other measure to make it too costly or too slow to be feasible would also work.

If you're spooked by bots, consider that everything you're concerned about here isn't rly avoided by needing charter memo, because automating movement between point a and point b is a less complex script than the things you're spooked by. Especially if you're the one placing the charters, can just do them next to water and it's honestly not even that long of a script.

If you're spooked by people guessing your charter ID, consider that every market has a public charter that everybody knows and could memorize on as many characters as they want, and usually spawn alts at. I've never heard of a market being raided through the charter. You need some really intense usererror in your base design for this to be a legitimate security concern.

Hmm it worked back then. I wonder what stops people from raiding the market via charter stones. Is it the visitor debuff (which didn't exist with the original charter stones)?

Yes, and from what I remember a big part of the issue was the fact that you could jump through walls when teleporting to charters, which doesn't really work anymore.

Sounds like another update that will only benefit a very small percentage of the playerbase that has a malevolous agenda and is just trying to push this in order to abuse it.
