+1, alternatively don't give FEP/satiations/hunger level reductions for eating any food, unless you're eating at a table

Having to build table&chair every time you want to grab an attribute from berries wouldn't be nice though.

Could just do the whole gorge/savor thing from valhalla if something slightly less intuitive like needing a table to gain FEPs is preferable. Although, I think to an hour 1 player the tooltip for some foods just not having FEPs/Hunger would be much easier to understand

Counter opinion: effectively remove energy. maybe add tiredness to the game so if someone does too much at once, they gotta sit and rest for a minute... improves with a combination of CON and STR. If there's a need for starving hearthlings, I have another suggestion for that, but wont' clutter up this thread with it. (Pretty sure I or someone else posted it before or something similar, anyway.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Hell, you can remove all feps from said food with hunger all together, just leave energy gain... Creating 20 alts just to do terraforming, cutting trees as well is abhorrent.

That's the most awesome idea I've seen around lately. Please consider.

Might or might not work.
I highly doubt Jorbtar ever tried to terraform a base for a small group on first week of the new world.
The only reasonable option to do this atm is making alts and exploiting them smuggling all the plants around for trash food in bulk.
Doing otherwise either ruins your FEPS and hunger for weeks, or leaves your base exposed without pali for way too long making it an easy target to steal from.

Actually, I'd get back to my earlier suggestion - remove fep and hunger gain from a food if it has already been eaten in the current fep bar.
At the same time remove variety bonus and satiations.

People will have to eat different foods to get FEPs, the more variety the more stats they have. At the same time they get hungerless energy food if they keep eating the same stuff.
And the fep bar easier to manage and understand without variety bonus

I agree with this. Removing energy would fix most of the issues with the food system. I'm not sure if "tiredness" is necessary. Stamina already serves that purpose. The relationship between hunger/energy/stamina has always been an issue even during legacy when spam digging between feasts was a thing. It's not like energy is adding much to the theme of the game either because it's incredibly hard to starve to death.

I think in general trying to limit the amount of hard labor a hearthling can do is a fools errand because they will just make alts to get past anything attempting to time-gate content. Curiosities and hunger act as time-gates, but those are tied to one's character. Hard labor on the other hand can be done by anyone for the benefit of everyone.

Jorb has replied to me to the effect that he didn't view it as necessary. He had a similar opinion along the lines of "berries and fruits are fairly decent for a new player". I've argued those viewpoints are out of touch with what the game mechanics highly encourage, and therefor the way many of us players will feel "forced" to do (beyond pvp factions who 100% have no choice). My last conversations about this were W12 start, so changes may have modified this somewhat.

@Magic's idea:

I would absolutely hate having to sit down to rest. We had that in W5 and I really don't like the game forcing me to break my preferred workflow for a mechanic (also why I dislike timer mechanics like treepots/silk). I much prefer a system that lets you "load up" in one big go and then lets you play.

@JC's idea:

I like this in theory, but I'm concerned it'd add another unintuitive mechanic for early game players to memorize. Overall I'm for it if there's modifications to ingame tutorials to accommodate it though. This has been suggested several times as well, can't say I remember jorb/loftar's opinion on it though.
