It's a tougher credo than the other two starters, but in no way needing a nerf. I have never ever had to abandon a 'find a fish' quest on it. Some were tough (herring..) but a little research and patience did the trick.

You can find sturgeon node in like 10min with decent gear combo and ability to see two fish. Free tip, use cattail, bone hook and feather fly for sturgeon. But yeah, everyone should either know how to fish or have someone in their group who does. I mean, what do you people eat before crops get going, roast meat or some shit like that?

Then find out the right combination of the three for every goddamn fish. We ate the fish the fisherman accidentally caught looking for the fish they need. Thank fuck this will be rendered obsolete by nets soon.

Everything depends on random quests - sometimes its easy, sometimes You have 5 quest in a row really hard (cave fish - I hate You so much).

ITT: "I don't know how fishing works and can't be bothered learning"

Use the wiki as a starting point, and explore fish nodes with the suggested lures and a couple of different strings. It only took myself and villagemate a few days to complete each, and I was playing pretty casually.

As far as I'm aware, only the lure actually matters. I've been able to catch everything with cattail fibres and bone hooks.

The problem is the fishing portion of the wiki is the most blatantly incorrect article on the site. There's so many people who think shallow vs deep water matters because the wiki says so. You don't even need a casting-rod to do the fishing credo. The most important part is to just be diligent in recording where the fishing nodes are and which fish they contain in your area.

The wiki hasn't been properly updated in 2ish years? The game goes back and revises mechanics relatively often, the wiki is volunteer run, and a lot of the volunteers are just kinda tuckered out.

other things 100% matter and will shuffle around what fish you're actively getting.

There's 5+ gear combos with 100% catch chance for every fish type, it's really not that hard to stumble upon one. They can vary in bite chance, but it's not a huge difference, and for most fish there are 3 combos with 100% bite chance (before adjusting for node density). And yeah, all parts of fishing gear matter.

I don't know how fishing works and can't be bothered learning.

It's boring, time consuming, poorly documented, and the credo is a requirement for too much.

There are motherfuckers in THIS THREAD contradicting each other. If game mechanics are going remain this complicated they should be official documented or be less essential, like alchemy. In the meantime I'll get the credo for nomad, do it first and rely on my fellow villagers working together to figure out where fish are. Just completed the credo on a second character, thank you very much.

Let me throw in that if you are fishing right on where fish are jumping out of the water, you should be catching more fish than trash. Had that problem a couple of times and its just ridiculous.
