Those thin ridges need to have proper elevation.
They also don't require to go through bodies of water.
More pronounced terrain phenomenona should always be explored as it makes the game look way better.
Powergamers would probably love nothing more than a completely flat world like legacy had.
There is great value in making the game look better.

Sounds like you just need to explore more.

I've seen ridges just like this both through water and randomly in the middle of many different terrains.

I think you could get more interesting landforms my just adding more variance to the worldgen. I miss weird shit like 1 tile wide rivers.
