I think if we go into realism, there will only be problems rather than some kind of carefully thought out and playable game mechanics, we need a compromise between common sense, realism, and playability

I have proposed a mechanic for it in previous world - tree cuttings viewtopic.php?f=48&t=67959&p=859193
In few words - with a special skill you can cut one cutting from a tree on any season, which can only be planted with Treeplanters Pot.

This question is not about realism. IF trees grow in mid winter in this game with snow and all its just dumb.

It’s not dumb, it could be balanced in a way such as conifers growth in winter continues but is significantly slowed and their growth time over the rest of the year could be adjusted to compensate for that. It might be nice to then have more variation in the growth capability of different tree types based around seasonal advantages and disadvantages.

I don't think Shubla knows that it can be above freezing outside with there still being snow on the ground. Then again in an earlier comment he talked about trees not having central heating system, so I guess he just plain forgot that the sun quite literally warms things up over time as it shines on them which is adequate enough for sap to flow during daylight hours for most Evergreens.

There's a device called "Smudge Pot". These are used in vineyards and orchards.

Not sure if they actually help the growth of plants and fruits, but at least they can help prevent frostbite.

But in HnH we have the multiple harvests per year, and the ability to grow a tree from sprout to mature (seeds) in a week or two. Maybe having a device that prevents snow formation may be relevant to also prevent fallow plants and trees.

A conifer, cleared of snow, will continue to grow as low as 0C. It's less about the air temperature because needles are well insulated with wax and more about the soil temperature. Also, the cones have a 2-year life cycle with no seasonality, so it should be producing cones year-round. They should at the very least have cones in the spring.

I think you're focusing on the wrong thing guys... who cares if they don't grow in winter, that's just 5 days. The issue is that you don't get seeds until summer.

Seasons as they exist are poorly thought out. This (trees) and others are good reason to just revert it. Shame on whoever encouraged this to be added to Haven. (I was probably one of them.)

Tbh, I think most people asking for seasons were saying "Hey lets have new visuals and extra content that comes in waves". I doubt most of us except the sandpaper for toilettries types wanted anything existing in the game to be removed or hindered by season implementations.

Thinking about it from that light, seasons sound pretty cool. That's not what we got.

IRL both Persimmon and Hawthorns are among several trees that thrive and produce fruits (ie) seeds in the winter, so you can stuff that water freeze theory and perhaps do a bit of research beforehand.
