Cass is very rare past L2.
didn't find any in L3 and L4 and mined like a maniac.

If you're pushing quality yourself (relatively on pace with the world, maybe at most 1 layer behind), you need to use the stone axe constantly. I mean constantly.

Also didn't say it should impact mining score, only effective quality of outputs. Pickaxe for example has a boost to mining score, but not to quality. Stone axe would still push through hardness nodes sometimes.

Must be nice to find high q iron node constantly :^)
And I understood your post the first time.
My quarryartz are high Q , my iron / cass for bronze isn't , your exemple would fuck me hardcore.
My situation would be irrelevant if I was a rare situation but I doubt it's the case.

No different from having bad luck with stone right now. We've had pretty garbage stone/metal finds, so we traded to keep on track.

Intuitively, and I might be wrong , I'd say this statement is incorrect for the fact quarryartz surface to mine for high q is 100% while for iron it's a tiny %.
Making variance less relevant.

If we're ignoring bronze entirely: iron can be spiralled while stones cannot. If you're having bad luck with metal quality, you can spiral yourself back with bulk effort.
