No, flower menus suck. It's very easy to accidentally double-click instead of single-click

The problem isn't that the flower menu is insufficient, the problem is the risk is too large. Accidentally claiming somebody's study table feels really bad. I don't like walking so close to that metaphorical cliff.

A player is never going to need to claim a study table more than once a day, so having then wait 5 seconds really has no negative side effect and it gives a decent amount of anxiety reduction for those that care

I have accidentally done this on more than one occasion.

This. Risk of miss-clicking is actually kind of small, but the consequences of when it does happen can be far too severe. Of course best case scenario is that the person is online and you PM them to take the desk back, but what if they're on a week-long trip without Haven access and filled up their desk before that? Depending on world stage, you made them lose tens or hundreds of thousands of LP.

+1 for hourglass timer;
Alternatively we could make it a crime to take possession of a claimed study desk (same mis-click could happen, but would be locked behind the crime toggle)

In my experience no. In a month I think we had about 10 incidents of study desks accidentally stolen.

I made the mistake about an hour ago. I wouldn't mind an hourglass

I don't see where the hourglass will be a detriment, you already have to take time to add studies to the desk, and sure some people blindly mousewheel, but 3-5 extra seconds for choosing a study desk would really help a lot of high fuckheads like me not steal my wifes desk.
