Yep, "Watch it's moves" is a shitty tool, but it's an alternative to not having any tool at all. (Tool in this context; IP generator.)

Watch its moves should provide -1 IP to the opponent.

It's definitely way too shitty considering you have to be in physical contact with the opponent, there's no excusing that tbh. It should have a bigger upside than currently.

That makes sense thematically. You watch their moves/predict what they are going to do, thus reducing their initiative/ip.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Isn't watching and waiting the opposite of taking the initiative?

Sun Tzu would have something to say about that.

Sun Tzu wrote:Rapidity is the essence of war: take advantage of the enemy's unreadiness, make your way by unexpected routes, and attack unguarded spots.

Once you're in battle, you should already be ready to fight. Preparation should happen before the battle, not during it. According to Sun Tzu, at least.

Meh, what did that loser Sun Tzu even know. He's just a nerd who wrote a book nobody reads.
