Credos suck because of what the quest tasks actually are: random bullshit that is at best net zero benefit to your progress and at worst a waste of resources and time. They’re the worst kind of deadend minigame only propped up by necessary rewards (forager speed buff, quarryartz, etc)

Credos would only ever be a good mechanic if their quests encouraged productive tasks rather than doing the exact opposite


The quests just need to be thematical and not horrendously unbalanced like they are now.

its fine for quests to be just that, quests, the "benefit" is the reward you get for completing them. the quests just need to not suck. Reducing number of quests isn't a 'band-aid' fix, its a reasonable request to normalise the number across credos. what we have right now just makes zero sense from a game design perspective. If the quests are rebalanced to a good standard then the average player shouldn't need to abandon/reroll any to progress through.

One thing that i think should be considered is the diff between a 1 objective quest and a 4 objective one.
I think either there should be a lower limit to objective (like 2, MAYBE 3, at most. It can also change from 2 to 3 at like level 4 or something idk), or that quests with 3+ objectives should count double (So if you abandon it's -1, but if you actually do them it's +2).

I think it would be interesting if every credo had exactly same quests. In some other mmo games where important quests always needed 10x of some items it gave value for low tier items. For example if first level always needed 6 stinging nettles to distribute between quest givers then you have choice between survival gear or first forager boon.

i'd like to add that for Hunter, 'put an arrow into x' should not require you actually damaging the target's red hp. currently it wont get completed if you only damage their armor
for an early credo, how are you supposed to penetrate moose's armor with 10ql arrows

I have found credo quests tend to be a chore, but sometimes they do encourage me to do things I never would have done which get me out of my comfort zone, and I appreciate that. If data isn't collected on credo quests, which ones are completed, which ones are abandoned, how long they take to complete and how long they've been open before they're abandoned, that should be done so that a rebalance can use that data as input.

Overall I do like your suggestions. It's a quick fix that would make credos already better.

I would push the fixes a couple steps further:

1. Remove specific items, ask for generic ones.
Instead of asking to gather 2 parasol mushrooms, ask to gather 20 mushrooms of any kind.
Instead of asking to harvest 20 pumpkins, ask to gather 100 crops.
And so on.
This would solve two issues: seasonality and rare-item quests.

2. Add a limit to how many quests you can do in one day.
Especially with the above mentioned changes, getting some credos is very easy and fast. Too fast IMO.
Limit to 1 level per day, or something like that, would go a long way to slow down progression a little bit (which seems to be where the game is headed with the mining and farming changes the last couple of worlds).

Games are for fun and if you took a straw poll in this thread of who thinks credos are fun on a scale of 1 to 5 youre gonna get 1 across the board

That alone is reason to rework it
