Beacons should be somewhat easier to build tbh, at least during the first week of the world or something

Really Agree with this. In all honesty, it should only take you 5 minutes to be able to build a W. Beacon

I also Really Agree that there should be a tutorial that takes you step by step with the understanding this is how you bring in your friends to your local.

Reducing the material cost would probably alleviate most concerns raised in this thread. Imho the most simple and effective solution.

If the material cost were to simply be halved:
Clay x5
Stone x5
Board x5
Woodblock x10

Someone mentioned Carpentry, and while it's trivial to unlock for an experienced player, and reasonable expectation for a new player, maybe removing Boards entirely instead would be a better solution? After all, you do need a bone for a bonesaw. And it has an awful ratio of boards per log.

I also wouldn't complain if the Boards were removed, and the remaining materials still got halved.

That's a good point. Figuring out how to catch a rabbit or squirrel for bones isn't very intuitive for a new player and coming across a flock of chickens is RNG.

Still, I think the fact that new players need to recreate their characters to use a WB once they figure out that mechanic leaves a bad first impression. Maybe if the character was spawned without a WB, they could have the option to teleport to a WB within 24 hours of character creation? This teleport would probably have to drop a player's inventory and any lifted objects so players don't abuse it to get tree seeds they're missing.

new steam players will play sloooowwwww, plus they'll be on defaul client... might aswell forget about them, some will like the game and learn the basics in one year or two, most will just drop out

I feel like this is the biggest problem of beacons, especially if you're making a character and only figure out a few hours in that you want to join a group. Especially with steam you'll have the "Friend currently playing X" popup which often results in people who also play X messaging you to play together, so you might not even know there's friends you could play with until after you've played a few hours on a character and remaking your character / attempting to meet in game is plenty of time for people who might have otherwise continued playing to decide to quit.

Reduced cost for WB, no skill requirement (taking away boards) and adding a line of text at character creation wizard that your friends have to build a WB for you to join them.
That way every new player will see this and can communicate with their friends that a WB has to be build and by taking away the requirements they can build it from the start.

If that aint easy enough, HnH is probably not the game for them.

My suggestion: there could be a second NPC next to the skull totem. When you click it, dialog box will contain an explanation of WIlderness Beacon (and Charter Stone.)
