If the item that is stolen is "reclaimed" in anyway it should kill the theft scent.

Remove the ability to track a stolen item with the ability to send a Nidbane to go and pick up the stolen item then deliver it to the lawful owner.

Would most likely not help; perps would simply travel around with items they've "stolen" from an alt and put those on people they KO.

Maybe add a temporary tooltip to the stolen item and give it a greenish highlight indicating its been stolen and can be tracked while the scent exists, and /or a debuff stating you have stolen items on you.

lol
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

this literally wouldn't help though. You can't throw it back on the ground if you are K.O.'d and you have to Hearth back to survive or you get perma knocked down so that stolen item is gonna end up in your base whether you know to get rid of it or not.

Nah, a better solution would be to code an in-game chatbot that pops up a window asking them to turn on their webcam and punch themselves as hard as they can in the face. If they don’t do it, they die in-game. That would be more humane, hahaha.

add a "Reeks of Theft" tag to any item that lets you subtly know that it can be tracked, and then people can decide themselves whether or not to keep it. Best inbetween probably.

Also maybe let people drop items while KO'd.

I'm not saying to drop before hearthing after getting KOed

I mean, if you are getting KOed right outside your base and cant leave or have no chance of dropping the stolen items in the water to lead the attackers on a wild goose chase, Im pretty sure tracking the item to your home isnt even needed.

Unless someone can pinpoint someones location with scents within just a couple of minutes without being near the location:

Situation A: You get KOed, you hearth back, notice you have stolen items, run to boat and drop in water, you are no longer trackable.

Situation B: You get KOed, you hearth back, you were just attacked near your base, you stay safe in your walls and just wait for the aggressors to go away and drop items to put into loot pool.

Feel free to add any other situations where my suggestion wont help beside being clueless.
