I have yet to get this wound from chopping trees with my chars.

this world though I didn't do the hermit village so I have not cut down the amount of trees I usually do.

Is this a W 16 thing or has it been around for some worlds?

has been always like this, lacerations are just the wound directly over deepcut in the wound progression for nicks and nacks.

wich makes them one of the most common wounds, especially if you dont take a lot of damage,

bigger hits would create their own wounds, wich are less severe than lacerations.

there is still a lot of rng, as to when wounds stack over, and intoo what, but with some bad luck, you can have nicks and nacks, split of intoo lacerations, as low as at 8 stacks, directly skipping deepcuts.

other times , you take 20 nicks, and they just split off into 5-10 deepcuts, and become cuts, wich you can heal with a yarrow and some waybroad.

so usually , i end up with 2 of them atleas every world, starting in the early game, and they keep me company untill far intoo the game.

Why not new sort of treatment for common wounds.
- Boiled/Disinfected clothes/rags
- Herbal ointments
- Herbal infusions (for faster recovery)
