Any change to this system has a crazy ripple effect on pvp. I like to describe haven's combat system as "Tactical jogging" to people who haven't played the game.

Who cares?
Things that do not change are doomed to oblivion, we will get there through trial and error, it is time to turn things around.
You want to go on another 10 years with the usual exploits, usual tricks, usual opknock and cleave, usual bots, usual unequal opportunities with custom clients, and so on ...
Let's turn it around ... Not all at once, but slowly let's try new systems, more modern, things that now maybe are possible and 10 years ago were not ... let's experiment.

Absolutely dislike the current iteration.
I liked the one where you had to put up defenses instead of lowering your openings, there also was a cap to stats in that world. I'd like to see this system to return.
I wish devs did wild experiments with combat system and kept it for the whole duration of world. I want there to be a supporting/buffing role, like a traditional healer or something, maybe protecting allies by reducing their openings or shielding them from damage, how about this idea?
Repairs and gildable armors were a thing i think, for a very short while? Removed speed bonuses from bunny chasing as well, if i remember correctly. Ideas like that had no chance to shine due to usual suspects who enjoy their videos where they run after each other for 10 minues with obnoxious rap music in background.

It's kind of necessary in a sense for a combat system to be position based in a game with huge potential stat disparities. Most people wouldn't be happy with the biggest industry nerds getting an autowin. So no matter what, it's gonna be some weird running around system. Might as well keep the one we know works if we're getting more of the same.

Before anyone suggests it: I've never seen a formation based combat game work in a way that was fun. War of Rights is the only example I can think of and I wouldn't call that a game so much as "an experience".

I'd like to see actual naval warfare.

EDIT I know it's not ... Slavic and Germanic myth and legend
