Don't remember ever using a strongbox more than once in all my playtime.
Could be nice if instead of lock and key, they were accessed through a permissions system attached to the strongbox itself. Perhaps something like claim owner/lawspeaker of where the strongbox is constructed or the builder of the strongbox would set who on their kin list could access it either by name specifically or by colour? Otherwise only accessible by builder or w/e. Leaving them destructible through siege might also be fine I guess.
Maybe like a leanto or study desk where you gain ownership of it after construction and can set or revoke that ownership. Ownership could persist through death to make it safer/better for the owner. Give them more storage space too. Also, given the current metal progression with regard to steel, it might be prudent to reduce or modify their material cost in order to make them more accessible to the majority of players in a shorter time frame. Unless the intent is for something like that to be a luxury.
