No alts. No help from others. No scavenging inactive claims. Everything was verifiably and without doubt done by one character alone.

If you cant play without doing any of these things you mentioned and need the game to restrict urself then the problem is totally on you... also if someone really wanted to play this way, they would literally do everything you said be it with a "character mode" or without it, its all about how much someone wants to play this way.

As sevenless said, hermiting is a very common way to play.
(if you really PLAY the game, you probably have noticed that alot of hermits play this way or in a similar way, without any contact with other ppl, without using markets or taking stuff from abandoned places around... its no news and ppl been playing this way since a long time ago tbh)

You can say that about RuneScape but yet it's an official game mode. I think HnH is perfect for it.

Having actual restrictions forces you to play the game in a different way and gives more inherent value to items. Who would stick to a solo mode and make an effort to be self-sufficient if there were no genuine restrictions on the character.

You could also have a Ironman sub-forum and be sure nobody cheated their run.

I think this would be an interesting addition if we had a larger player base.
Right now we can't even keep a single server filled for more than a month at a time, and I know that the ironman players would technically be on that same server, but they'd by necessity sort of not interact with others.

I'm inclined to agree that until HnH sees a large growth in pop, this is better off as a self imposed restriction rather than one where it gets a full official support system.

You wouldn't need a playerbase at all and it wouldn't matter how old the current World is when you start.
You could hide the Ironman toggle in the character creation area and allow players to opt-out at any time.

That's the idea. Ironman characters could still give items to non-Ironman characters. Talk to other players. Commit crimes. Steal your stuff (but not use it) or get murdered. You don't need to play an Ironman character and I would assume most players wouldn't. It's meant as a challenge for veteran players and for those who want to protect their progress from outside interference.

I understand the need for this in an official capacity, there is always temptation no matter the good intentions to keep to your word you will always cheekily eat someone else's cheese without anyone looking, yes you are only cheating yourself but still I understand.

When I hermit this is how I generally play anyway, No trading, self found, 1 character. There isn't anything fundamentally different about adding an official ironman mode here.

However, I would say a Hardcore Mode would be an interesting addition, in which when that character dies it doesn't leave a gravestone to inherit from, that's it. you could be given a little icon by your name making you even more a target of pvp and ganking, making your heart race a little more. of course bragging rights for realm fights and calling out those weak pvpers who don't risk it all.

I love Hardcore Ironman game modes and I honestly might just start playing Haven with a 1 life rule for the hell it, with no return to scene rules.

I am probs the only one who thinks havens longevity would improve if death were a lot more common and inheriting bases/characters wasn't a thing.

"...especially ones that encourage social interactions"

This game certainly does not qualify here. H&H promotes a paranoid gameplay where you flee at the sight of another player. They may be perfectly friendly, someone you'd like to know, but you can't take the chance - "better safe than sorry" - so hearth away, interacting with strangers only from the safety of your pali or a public place like a market or well (and the latter are becoming rare due to the number of players who "get their jollies" from destroying them within weeks of their appearance).
