I picture someone with even one bucket, much less several, on their belt trying to walk around, lol.
My complaint with buckets is since our inventories are space limited, not weight limited, it makes no sense that we can have an empty bucket in inventory, but put one seed in that bucket and it must be carried by hand. A bucket is the same size whether empty or full.
"...a massive cooking QoL boost."
My proposal for this would be a "kitchen" space. This could be designated by a certain paving or a hearth magic giving tint to the space, and would cost something to create. It would be adjacent to the fireplace, anything on that space - crates, barrels, chests, stacks, etc. - would effectively be in your inventory when standing adjacent to it, so you could stand there and cook many items without having to constantly stop and run around for more ingredients. An empty crate or chest on that space could receive cooked items. An alternative would be to designate a building as a cookhouse, with a fireplace inside (perhaps an actual fireplace with mantel, andirons, and logs ...q of those could contribute to food), and anything in the building would be cooking inventory.
