There are many ways to handle this.
Layering walls is dumb. That's why we have splash damage.

Fair point.
What if -after getting inside- the Ladder could be moved by lifting it -no disassemble required, avoiding a new timer- (as long as you don't leave the claimed area)?

In case of multiple layers side-by-side, it just allows to jump both.

That should allow to go past any other layer, solving the issue.

I just fill the gap with torch post.
Okay if you really want to push it through, all factors could be considered. But vault alting everything will just make it another tedious thing that only hurts demographics I have already mentioned.

If it creates ridiculous meta strategies, they could address those as well.
What in your claim could possibly require this much protection? It’s a video game.

Are you afraid someone might take a few carrots from one of your twenty stockpiles?

You could, just like you could build 10 layers of walls, spammed with stacked items, trees, or whatever in between. But that's a huge amount of silly work (and space) to protect you against something that isn't really a threat if you're an active village. I'm sure the majority of villages wouldn't bother with something like that, when they can just check their perimeter every once in a while (or have a warning like wreckingballs if we wanna make it easier to defend agianst).

As for alt vaults, that's always been an issue. It's still used, especially in the rare occasion of a siege.
That could be fixed as well, pretty easily tbh. Instead of vanishing when you logout, leave a sleeping character in your place: invulnerable (so u can't be killed offline), but with their inventory accessible through theft. That would make alt vaults quite worthless.
Alternatively, for easier implementation, use the heartfire for it. When you are offline, the hearthfire works as "a chest to your inventory", allowing theft from it.
Both systems would make alt vaults way less impactful.

The waiting time is only to jump over a wall on an active claim. Once that time has expired, you can move the ladder freely on that claim and all claims that overlap or are x distance away.

Great idea.

Fix alt vaulting, it's disgusting.

EDIT

You wouldn’t get past a stockpile that holds 11 items.
You take 250 SHP damage just for picking up a pile of dirt with a wheelbarrow, but lifting full containers off a claim only deals 1 SHP.
Stockpiles should ignore player collision, for starters.

Distance limits for stockpiles.

Also, with this excuse that nothing can be done, this game has never been fixed, when it would be appropriate to start.

Starting from the client ....

Thank you :)

And yes, a rope ladder would work! Or a grappling hook too.

Yes, stockpiles could be an issue. Ignoring collision could be a way to go, good call.

It may be harder to implement fairly than you think.
All the people you would want to steal from will use alts as containers or put their valuables in some place inaccessible like behind many many layers of palisades or deep in the depths of the mines.

It will end up being used to troll noobs who are already dying and losing shit without you interacting with them.
