First thing new people do is see the quest to restore energy, run around eating any berry they see, and fuck up their ability to gain stats for a while.

I know. Also I vaguely remember to have posted a complaint about that, chiming in with all the others that thought that this is bad advice.

Hunger as it currently works forces you to have sacraficial labor alts even as a solo hermit.

You can leave hunger if you remove energy. Making healing occur at well fed status but maybe the 300% FEP bonus is too much of a trade off.
https://strawpoll.com/xh2d3zr2 if you give a fuck about mining vote on this. Make mining great again! Bring back old supports.

did we ever reach the conclution that hunger bar i broken and the 300% boost is too much, so we might as well just remove the hunger system all together?

Wasn't the purpose of hunger to make it easier for noobs to catch up yo players that mega feast, and now it is the complete opposite?

Cheers

its also confusing because you "starve" when your energy runs out but this somehow has no correlation with your "hunger bar" or the fact that you are "ravenous" or "famished", trying to explain that to new players is fun

if it's gonna stay, the "hunger" should, at least, be renamed into "appetite" or something alike.

Acknowledging the redundancy in the systems is something to be be addressed. A novel idea would be to combine hunger and satiation.

For example satiations could go, and would start out, above 100% and would function as the current hunger bonus.

As it stands we're spinning two plates to accomplish a single goal.

or perhaps change the purpose of hunger bar to instead determine your satiation chance? For example when you are ravenous eating a single bread has smaller chance to increase satiation than eating same bread while full.

They are not the same. Hunger prevents you from stuffing yourself with tons of the same food just for energy, while still being able to get all the FEP u want later on with other foods.

While I'm not a big fan of the current system, I think it serves its purpose. It makes variety more important, and rewards those with a balanced diet.
I'd argue that stamina should be reworked, because some mundane things require way too many (like terraforming and building, forcing you to either screw up your hunger or use an alt)

This is exactly why stamina doesn't work well with building.

I, too, think that the current system is pretty fine, at least as fine as devs managed to make it. The satiations are fair, as you can easily manage them if you don't forcefeed your char with the same stuff over and over. Some jobs require a bit too much energy,so maybe they could be made a little less energy consuming (mostly digging and chopping. I think mining is fine, it should be tiring).
The only thing i don't like about the current system is that you can eat with full energy bar. I've seen a lot of people explaining why it's not possible to fight that (running bots and such), yet i think that could be changed. For example there could be satiation for water (!!!) which would lower your FEP gain from all food groups, but it would be way, way quicker to disappear than regular satiations. It would prevent people from farming stats by eating->running(drinking)-> eating. It wouldn't affect regular players so much, as long as they didn't just 24/7 focus on hard labour works.
