I made mine supports because I don't like playing mine sweeper. The new changes to mine supports suck imo

same
I mined without supports during last world already to find gem and ore nodes.

I also like the minesweeper mechanic, when tunneling and looking for ore veins. But once I do hit an ore vein, I want to be able to mine it, not waste XP on Mining Song only to find out basically none of it can be mined without cave-ins and supports not doing anything to remedy that.

I guess you could say some of those ore nodes have to stay as natural supports. Considering this, mine song is pretty risky right now, maybe only useful for gold/silver nodes.
Maybe there could be a new spell that prevents cave-ins for like a 1-2 minutes in small area around you, but after that they all crash down. It would allow safe gathering ores (for exp price), but it would be useless for making tunnels

great system.

Tbh there could be only 3 cave-ins in this picture, depending on the amount of dust. .
Do some people think dust = cave-in ?

The problem is that every tile is dust so you can't tell where the cave ins are...this is what mine supports were used to get past while doing the minesweeper minigame. You can't play the minigame if everything is dust so it gives you 0 information.

I totally agree with that , I was just giving the info to someone who doesn't know .
I didn't myself until very recently.
It wasn't like that in legacy.

I got Koed by trusting this today. Not at all sure what happened but I knew 1 spot, checked the dust, mined another and got conked.

That is to say, you weren’t keeping proper track

I personally enjoy minesweeping but it’s complete BS that mining out/protecting large areas for ore or underground living is basically not viable. Cave decay+mine support durability is a recipe for unnecessary misery, but what else can you expect from the legendary developer of Haven and Alts

I'm pretty meticulous with my counting, paving, and marking. I do not think I miscounted, and despite knowing there's multiple cave in tiles touching a spot I've never gotten more than 0.01 this world.

Considering how weird ore gen is being I'm going to keep my tinfoil hat on.
