no they dont. cows just need 1 calf and then can be milked forever, as long as you milk them regularly....

I ran a very large cheese factory in w7 and my milking cows never ran out of milk, and I replaced them
with higher q cows maybe once every 2-3 months, are you sure that your remembering the game mechanics properly?

yes i distinctly remember separating our milking cows and they ran out of milk within a few weeks and they needed to be bred again.
