Bats are an awesome source of easy stuff... As people mentioned already, you don't need much ua and armor to start taking them down like flies... Just make sure to attract one by one instead of running into groups o them :P

Back on W8 we had to made a battering ram EVERY DAY because we were taking down a pali to build a b-wall and were also threatened by Erebus, so we couldn't afford to leave a ram ready to attack our inner wall until the outer wall was ready. So we built one every day, a lot of bone glue came fast from where? Bats :D you'll love 'em once they don't get you anymore. Not to mention all the curios, cape, etc...
