I really do not know what to do to make the mid-end game more exciting.
How about pitched battles between villages that can be started 4 months into the game. Both sides must consent and the battle is held
on neutral ground/arena. The battle should be balanced in some way based on battle stats. The winner gets to rummage the losers village for 3 hours
unhindered. This will set the loser back somewhat, but not so much that they rage quit.

games like this have always relied on large scale pvp as their end game so i think fixing the siege system would be a good start they should remove the brimstone requirement for siege machines because i also think that they should allow localized resources to be claimed what better reason to siege someone than for a resource you cant get elsewhere

the other option besides pvp is obviously pve they could periodically add large very difficult boss mobs that only live once this would give end game villages something to fight over and organize around

fixing siege might get retention rates higher, but this still doesnt fix the problem of limited space. Like I said, just 3 months after w9 started, you cant make a new character and be remove to have a period of self development and understanding the game. the sense of adventure would come from looking through abandoned ruins, where you could probably get crops and things, and just skip weeks of work. The real magic of this game, is the first 3 months of a world. Anything past that is just wishing you had a client with bots, like factions do, so you can watch numbers go up.

But how could that work? What keeps it from decaying? being untouched by anyone for extended periods of time? Does leveling decay and become uneven?

idk I would have loved to see expansions, expansions would create localized competition and could be a lot of fun.

i'd love it if the game had multiple worlds, like planes that people could travel to. maybe through pits/portals/weird hole

People quit because they're so bad at this game and they ragequit. When new world comes they try again, then they find themselves suck at this game again and quit and start waiting for next world.
No matter what you do, population drops every time.
Theres no flow of new players coming. This game is not advertised anywhere or anything like that.
Only source of new players is maybe google search and peopel telling their friends which is not enough.
And because J&L are so superior, they think that if game is good enough people will see dreams of it and start playing it or something.
