As a newer player hermit I just wish there was some kind of support that does not require metal. Mining is already annoying as it is, having to use the metal that is a bitch to find just to keep going really makes me want to not mine at all.

The supports used to only require nuggets instead of bars, not sure what made them change it.

You can find surface ore (well thats rare now but early game there is shitload of it everywhere), also try prospecting 2 find n once u build minehole it also works like wooden support so u can mine some ore without caveins to make new supports and once u start some mining ull see how common metals are.

btw mining isnt annoying its just time-consuming

For the first layer of wall at least, I don't think that can be said with 100% certainty though at least personally I'm not entirely sure it works that way.

They have same area of support as Wooden mine support. Tested and tried, radius checks out.

If you're building a minehole you don't need to put a support inside it before breaking the walls.

Its 100+ smelters statistics from w8. I cant say its wrong based on early w9 experience.
