The tastier food is, the more satisfying it is on your palate. You don't want to erase that experience with something else.

If you eat bland food, your palate isn't satisfied. It craves for something more.

There is some logic in this.

I've eaten plenty of tasty treats that don't fill you up at all, and bread that fills you up but tastes like nothing. It's just wrong.

Thank you, Granger.

By the way, I'm assuming we're talking about palate here because the alternative of becoming fat doesn't make sense.

Food found in the wild is scrawny and lean. It's not fatty at all. It also comes in its raw form which means you're not going to lose the nutritious parts in the course of preparation. For example, if you eat a blueberry pie and you're reducing blueberries, you lose a lot of the nutrients from blueberries in the course of cooking them (not to mention the implicitly added fat, sugar, and salt). If you eat blueberries in the wild, there's nothing lost (and nothing gained).

The same thing goes for eating wild rabbits or chickens versus domesticated livestock. Livestock is often fattened up on purpose. The meat you get from it is "juicy" for a reason. Wildlife is often tough to chew in contrast.

(A similar point can be made about real life junkfood that doesn't give you long-term energy even if it gives you a sugar spike. If you eat natural fruit in contrast, then you have sustainable carbs and don't put on weight.)

By the way, here's a webpage that literally and directly shows how rabbit meat is more healthy for you than beef or pork: http://www.how-to-hunt-rabbit.com/Rabbit-nutrition.html

While it is true that the system is not very realistic I don't think the old system was better.
If your problem is hunger level as a beginner then there are solutions for it.
Finding salt crystals is a non issue since the world is not as active anymore.
And an even better solution is doing quests not only do you get your hunger down you get many other useful rewards that help you getting started on better food.

To summarize I don't think the game should aim for ultra realism down to the very small details. Better to add content and fun game mechanics.

The game seems literally unplayable at this point.

My character is at half energy, and is full. His hunger just won't go down.

Also, in the course of doing a quest, the game had me cross 3 rivers before I even had boat building. I still didn't complete the quest because there was a fourth, and I didn't get lucky in finding another boat along the coast to row in. Heck, the river literally stretched for screens on end with just one tile of deep water, but my character's injured and can't heal so I won't dare swim with him.

Aside from that quest, I've only had 1/10 so far give me hunger depletion. I've even had a quest that just gave me 7 experience points. I also only encountered one salt deposit, but it was depleted.

When I played before, my strategy was to wander around gathering blueberries, chantrelles, rabbits, chickens, ants, and fish. I'd stumble across ruined farms for vegetables too. Eventually, I'd find some nearby players, and I'd carve messages in stones before putting them in front of their settlements to ask if they wanted to play together. We'd cooperate and roleplay, some of them would chat on Teamspeak, Ventrillo, or Skype, but for the most part they'd fade away over time before I moved onto the next settlement to roleplay with. Between settlements, I'd travel around with my cart and chests full of supplies, and make camp while changing my claim from bonus learning points I had while constantly cycling my curiosities.

Now, I can't do that anymore because of this hunger meter even though there are plenty more fruits and nuts to eat.

Thanks, but no thanks.

You know that hunger goes down over time right?
Gorge on shit food until at 10000% Energy, get good food (don't eat right now) and stack your Study with stuff, than log for a day or two, come back with (some of, depending on severity) your wounds healed, LP to spend, and Food to eat for good FEPs when you log, also, build a table and some of the best cutlery you can get, even wood helps, and eat the food I told you to gather earlier, then.

 I was salty like this about food until I managed it.
Suck me good and hard thru my jorts

In stead of looking for ways to solve your problems you complain on Critique that the game is unplayable.
I'll spoonfeed you a bit more since you are acting like a baby.
You can inspect the salt node to see when to come back for it.
You can also take up new quests with hearth magic. If you get a new quest do it on a mountain so its easier to move between NPCs.
Or follow MrPunchers advice until your tantrum is over.
