lol, what? You were the one that started to talk about politics in this thread.

There is a kingdom chat. There are permissions that let you invite people to it and decide whether to keep the kingdom chat open or closed for everyone. If you wish to talk with the people in your kingdom so much, you can just post the hs for the access to the realm chat and have your own global one easily. Forcing other kingdoms to have their chat open for everyone to read is just plain retarded and will lead to: People using the kingdom chat to lure the information out about the activity of the people in the kingdom, their hearth secrets, online, lure and trap them and etc. within a small rival territory. If you really wanna talk with everyone, why wouldn't you just make a kingdom which is free for everyone to join and chat?

If a kingdom doesn't want the public chat, they should be able to disable it for randoms on the realm with a tickbox, so the chat is not forced kingdom wide, simple as that? I am pretty sure people have brain in their heads themselves, and you cannot speak for the majority that they there is a possibility of luring and what not, because most of the people are not as dumb as you make them to be and will be aware that many randoms can see what you're typing in the chat and won't post any sensitive information, if any sensitive information is to be exchanged between random #1 and random #2 they can trade their HS and change it after they have done so even tho having a random's HS won't give you anything. I don't see it being any different from forums or any other type of communication, just saves the clusterfuck of oathing everyone in and gives new players a chance to communicate without having skype and being on forums and chatting ingame is more convenient in the first place. You can do all the gay things like luring, scamming, etc... with all other forms of communication too, by your logic, they shouldn't be there. Noone is also forced to use the realm chat, anyone can ignore it completely.

Nubs can be too trusting I agree.
But I also think they should be given the opportunities to fuck up.
Maybe put a disclaimer the first time they use realm chat:
"Anything you say may be used against you on the territory of the kingdom"
or
"Do not trust anyone. Not even yourself!"

They are already being screwed up enough without additional tools for this.
If you want a healthy community, do not design something that can be used to deceive people, simple as that. Otherwise everything will end up in the following scenario:

Noob got fooled and lost all his progress in 1 moment. He goes to the forum and complains about it. People will start laughing at him and calling him a noob for not knowing that using the realm chat will force you to face trolls and raiders, instead of help and support. After several threads like this, people will stop using the realm chats at all and will get a bad impressions of the game and the community.

Once again, you guys got all the tools for an open realm chat. If you really want it, go ahead. But do not force unaware people to randomly get the chat menu randomly once they enter a kingdom without knowing what it might lead to

I think said scenario is more attributed towards the mindset of whoever uses it and less of the realm chat itself. If many trolls inhabit the realm chat or if many helpful players inhabit it, then it due to the people rather than the realm chat itself. That being said, it is should be a function that you can open up whenever you want. In world 3, there used to be a public client by Pacho that will allow you to access the haven IRC chat. Aside from, trolls will exploit any useful tool to their advantage, the forum would be one. Which brings to this:

How would the realm chat be regulated? Without some semblance of order, it would just be another spammy chatroom, one that is public which is not something you want players to see if they start it up.

a few points i would like to bring up:

even if 'enemies' of the realm do try to exploit the chat, wouldn't there be 'allies' of the realm to warn players of the former's intentions?

even if the realm chat does turn into a spammy chatroom, people arent forced to read it, they can simply hide the chat.
- certainly there would be an option to mute/ignore problematic players, at least on the user's end
- certainly moderation power can be delegated to the owners of the realm. it is their realm after all

isnt it the responsibilty of the player to know whether or not a player can be trusted? personally, I trust no one while playing this game.

while it may be detrimental to some players who get ganked, i think the benefits of having a realm chat would outweigh the problems.

realm chat would enable
-instant question answering for noobs
-trade to some degree
-warning players about incoming raids
-hosting realm events
Have a question? Need help? Tired of people asking questions? Haven and Hearth Wiki.

It depends on the community and what is comprise of so that is going to be rather dynamic, safe to say.

The problem is if trolls spam the chat that it makes it a must to disable the chat, it destroys the purpose of the function of the chat itself. The muting can be circumvented by making alts. Some sort of moderation can be good but I am worried that if it is easy to make a realm, then someone that make realm just to make sock puppet voices.

It is and people can be deceived, but as stated above it varies depending on the community.

Hosting realm event might be a pretty good reason to keep interest in the chat and of the realm. That being said, it also seems like the function gravitating towards making a public chat for the game in general.

you shouldn't blindly trust strangers that's just common sense it has nothing to do with one being a noob or an old time player, but if lady goo wants to keep her realm's chat private i say let her have that, because she's a dog and no one really cares about her anyways
as for the normal people, it will be fun to have a regional in-game chat, because this game feels like singleplayer at this point

How do we explain the chat in the world lore?
Would it be hearth magic or the ability to shout real loud?

my idea was a message board thing that takes hour to post message and cant send new message for hour (one message per board(only built by qualified players assigned by higher ups)) kinda like a bird flew the message in

This is a good post

I think you look at the absolute worst case scenario which is good. But reality wont be that bad.
If I had a realm I would invite everyone. It was mentioned how its less of a hassle when everyone just automatically gets joined to the chat. Maybe new players don't even have any idea about realms so they wouldn't know they could be having nice chats and asking help.
