Fishing is criminally underdeveloped.

Fishing nets would be nice addition. You could put them on lakes.
They would be property of character who set them. If someone takes your fishing nets it would leave theft scent. Nets would have to be cleaned and stuff which would take some time.

Not at all saying it isn't fun in a single-player game, but I do have to admit I don't quite understand why you keep suggesting this in the context of Haven. How do you imagine this not being bottable to 100% autonomous success rate?

But current system is bottable to.
and more or less annoying cuz you aren't guarantee a fish.
The current fishing system is for a pro who needs to get to 30 int asap. then fishing takes a back row seat the rest of the game.
With the fep system already in place and how fish work- people don't wanna eat fish since compared to other things (cheese...) fish is not nearly as good.
and scaling of Q is horrid.

With JC boat idea- you don't wanna leave a bot to protect a boat in the unprotected waters.
and with the fishing mini game idea it would just make an easyer time for noobs to fish and casuals.

And yes~ i repeat Fishing is for noobs and casuals-
WARNING! MY ENGISH SUCKS.

That minigame keeps getting suggested because it's intuitively designed, has a little bit of a challenge and you could also get rare-ish treasures, which were tied into the minigame.
H&H offers a ridiculously boring afk-fishing, or mind-boggling casting rod minigame, in which you have almost 0 chance to succeed due to a fantastic Catch 22: to reel in a fish you need to guide it through the virtual maze, to go through the maze you need to know which path to take, and to know the path you need to know what type of fish will you reel in. Even if you manage to random your way into victory and write down the steps you took, good luck using that knowledge ever again, since the time of the day and moon cycle has already changed.

I'm not saying that Stardew Valley is a pinnacle of fishing sims (i've never even played the game myself). The point is that fishing currently no value to anyone past 20-30 -ish stats, and is very, very dull.

by a subtractive design point of view, right now fishing can just be removed from the game.

Fishing should be improved upon, but I'm not a fan of a minigame which just screams for a bot. A system which is wonderful in a single player game is not necessarily one which should be implemented in a game where you interact with other people.
