People already use roads to peek for getting EXP from certain events. There's no "extra" benefit of killing a quest giver, other than hinder other people progress or vent your frustration for getting 9 EXP from a quest.

You idea, while as "lore" would be cool, I would rather have a small chance for a quest description or "special parchment" after completing a quest with some lore piece, than an event of killing quest giver.

As You see, there are some idiots or not and believe me, people are very lazy when it comes to questing and having a lot of characters having a chance for something like 400XP is a lot. You actually create a situation, where killing a certain quest giver would yell a nice possible reward to many, even if a small for only one.

everyone i have met in this world is an obsessive min/maxer that loves nothing more than to pump up their stats to absurd extremes and killing known questgivers flies in the face of that.

where are these lazy people you're talking about?

and like i said, i didnt even want an exp value added to this. i used the number 400 as an example. if i had my way this event would give 0 experience or even TAKE AWAY experience. as the horror of that scream saps away your strength. (with the actually questgiver killer receiving the biggest penalty)

Surely You don't know everyone, just people You met. Half of people I interacted with are min/maxers and other half for fun, not really hardcores, rather casuals. I mean, losing experience would be neat and as long as this event wouldn't pop-up at mystic credo or any other credo I can totally see it, as long as there's not exactly a "number posivite reward" to it.

we don't have anything like this yet, might be cool, and give people more of an incentive to protect the questgivers they've met

I don't care one way or the other. I'm just pointing out an older thread where people were bragging about finding them and taking them out. People will be asses with or without incentives. Give them incentives, and more people will likely behave like asses.

(These statements assume the general public opinion that those who destroy quest trees and rocks are asses. I'm not sure I agree or disagree as it's a play style. It's not one I'd pick, and if I were to catch someone in game doing such... I might throw away a character ganking a spruce cap... might just shrug and let it go. Moods and all.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

So does the cutter have a chance at the event or does the person on the quest have a chance at the event when the tree is cut?

Your first post implied the latter but the entire thread after the first post seems to imply the former. Granted they could be the same person.

Even though its unthinkable, that people would do that, they will. Cut down quest nibba for a chance of this event.
Not 100%, but definitly possible.
A really dont want to give people this little push to destroy questgivers.

With that it might be feasible to implement something like the suggestion, on the other hand it (giving the experience to everyone with quests from that giver) could lead to groups purposefully ignoring a certain questgiver to kill it off (so it relocates, to be repeated later) from time to time just for the experience.

Bottom line: they should IMHO be unkillable (and unclaimable), see this topic.

I only recently learned that they were attached to the tree and not the player. Until recently I thought they were instanced to the player and it just arbitrarily picked a tree a few mini-maps away and randomly generated a quest giver name from some list.

Not sure anything new is needed, tbh. A quest tree I knew was just chopped, and I definitely knew because I got a "quest failed". I experienced horror and sadness. I was aware of it happening when it happened. I knew what it meant.
