Changing it to a stat bonus instead of increasing the base stats is kind of naturally a slight need since gildings can only boost a stat to double the base, so the values wouldn't need to be lowered too much probably.

I'd be interested to hear from jorb/loftar on why they implemented it the way they did

I expect these credo buff to function as other bonus do and was surprised when they added to base ability instead.

Agree with OP, and this should be the case for both skills and attribute bonuses. The +10 Perception I got for forager credo actually hurt me since it raised my max attribute by a lot over the others.
