Just start another industry, become good at that, and buy the metal you need.

Edit
In my opinion one should not expect to be able to do all things in the game. Specialization is good.

If you are dealt only tin, you need to find other ways to get iron/silver/gold etc.. It is called trading or pillaging.

we dont know at the moment. havent put down a mine hole yet. personally im hoping to get lucky with some guano. getting a bad roll on metals isnt really that big of a deal. unless we get an utterly shitty roll on iron cause it would suck having to buy steel for my bwalls

You should be able to do all the basic things. Metal is not a luxury, it's a basic necessity. Simple example, without good access to iron a brickwall is nearly impossible. Brickwalls are not a luxury you should have to trade for.

well I think it would be fine if they just added L6 underground level that would make building the minehole more expensive but with better distributed ore tiles, so if someone was really unlucky they could spend time getting there and be a lot more likely to find something decent
maybe this L6 should also yield more precious metals too

Not sure if your second bit is serious or not, but you need better distributed well before that.

Depending how big your island is, yes that's quite feasible. I'm inclined to think your island is probably big enough that multiple regions exist, but some could be far enough away from your main base that combined with teleports being expensive it'll be logistically improbable to harvest it without a huge effort. Also assuming no one lives over there already and isn't more or less "claiming" it as a result. The fields are really huge in some cases.

indeed, one should be able to get basic tools like sword, shovel or scythe early
but I think that they could add this L6 I described anyway

"I don't have everything i want near me, so the game is bad" . . .srsly?
If you settled down before prospecting, it's your fault . .
You can make mining colony, you can trade, you can dig to deeper levels . . or you can cry about it on forums.
