This is something I thought about too. With whirlpools it’s quite easy to get around the map in a quick fashion and most players making use of the whirlpools aren’t doing so because they want to bring the word of God to foreign lands. The thought of running in to knarr filled with fighters while you are alone on rowboat is probably scary situation that majority of players don’t want to run in to even if they are also the same players going out on knarrs to do that. At least, I really doubt anyone hunting players on knarr is going to readily admit that they look forward to running in to the same situation.
What could be done about it though? Last world I don’t think I used a whirlpool more than once, it really is the PvP players or occasionally traders that utilize them and so these could be changed to work differently or removed altogether. I don’t really care if they get removed myself.
Can you still hearth on a knarr and take the knarr back with you? If yes then there’s another reason why those players are willing to travel so far and risk leaving scents, they need only wait about an hour to hearth home.
Disabling combat in any fashion seems silly and only asking for more trouble, would rather see it become more difficult for some asshole to get home after he kills players.
