Nobody has addressed this logical fallacy? The rage mechanic was somewhat vaguely stated to indicate that you can't die to other players.

  • As hinted in the previous patch we have decided to experiment with a fundamental change to the life and death mechanics, in that you will now, upon being knocked out, get the opportunity to teleport to your Hearth Fire, rather than lay prone for incoming murder.
  • Upon knockout, all combat relations are terminated, and you cannot receive new ones while knocked out.
  • We realize that this change is controversial. Our purpose is not to remove death, but to gradiate it more. Our purpose is also not primarily to protect n00bs or the like. Our primary purpose is to increase the amount of PvP in the game, and perhaps hopefully also curb some of the more autistic incentives toward farming multiple characters for combat, and such.
  • We realize also that there were a fair amount of people skeptical to this change when we floated it in the last patch, and have a great deal of respect for that. This could be a bad move, but after discussing it through a million times we've felt that A) The consequences are not entirely predictable, so we have to try it out to find out what it actually implies, and B) The potential upside of this change is yuge -- potentially increasing both player retention and pvp -- while the downside of trying it is fairly limited, and under those circumstances we kind of feel that we have to try it.
  • Please tread carefully when experimenting with this implementation. It is new, and there may, as always, be bugs or unconsidered edge cases that can cause actual death.

  • When you buy the "Rage" skill, you lose your immunity to further damage after being knocked out. Suggested here. The intention being that you opt in to both the abilities to attack and die at the same time.

Just have to complain enough on the forums so the people who figured out how to play the game reveal their secrets.

That's why I mean by 'vague' as it has since come out that it only stops damage from other players. Just had a village mate get killed by a herd of cave lice because he wasn't aware they aggro as a group.

If anything this tread demonstrates that trolls should be harder to kill, not easier.

I am constantly torn between "of course X should kill you", and "death is way too punishing". I am sure we will have a solution eventually. Death should be a normal part of life.

When you buy rage you can be murdered by animals as well, so it's a blanket change to KO mechanics. Since that's the case, some consistency with troll KOs would be nice

Never assume that this would be the case.
Not getting rage does not protect you from getting killed, because devs suck!

this is what i love in this community. instead of explaining why ur wrong, theres always 'ur wrong"

Explaining to Kaios is a waste of keystrokes. He has his mind made up no matter how many experienced players school him. Look at his combat thread to get a taste of this.

I change my opinion when reasonable arguments are presented. “No point in trying to convince him, his mind is made up” is about the biggest cop out you can take. You don’t have to explain anything to me, how about explaining to the person that actually called him out for his useless reply but nope you guys can’t even do that because Lyrroth’s post is correct, you’d prefer to argue and belittle the opinions of others rather than bother to explain anything properly or have a real conversation and you aren’t the only ones on this forum to do this. Or you simply don’t know the answers and decided to give your uneducated opinions in any case.

SnuggleSnail wrote:I would argue a 10 attribute 33k lp char with nothing but a sword and a spruce cap verse a l1 troll is a "harder" fight than a regular char vs. l9. I mean, they have the same mechanics, you literally just need to WALK AWAY when it's gonna hit you. I'm pretty sure they're intended to have a high grievous%

What could I say other than reiterate this again with different wording? An unarmored char with 100 hp takes a proportionately greater amount of damage from a 20/40 hit from an l1 troll, than a regular char (say 600-800 HP, 450-500 AC) would from a 20/40 from an l9? Irrespective, even high level trolls are easy enough that I'm willing to bet they've killed more people due to disconnects/buggy caveins than anything else, which I feel is a better argument for being less likely to kill hearthlings.

I WOULD ALSO ARGUE saying "ur wrong" and not explaining why is often a more useful response for lurkers than saying nothing when somebody is wrong, which is the norm. I can't tell you how many times I've believed incorrect information about obscure mechanics due to nobody correcting a forum post because it's x10 as much effort to correct somebody who's wrong than be wrong. That's a bit off topic tho.

I was actually really hyped/nervous to fight my first troll back when I was super new because everybody told me they were dangerous. I wouldn't want to rob people of that experience

You are telling people that they can kill trolls with a weak character, if they go and try that and then die because they assume they can do it even though their character is weak would that be my fault, or yours?
