I don't deny that, I'm just saying that I don't consider it worth the complexity that it would entail. I do have the maintainability of the code to consider as well as the convenience.

In addition to that, though, if I were to have three axes in my toolbelt to pick between for different situations, I would much prefer to just pick one of them manually and equip it instead of dicking around in the preferences window to indirectly cause the toolbelt to correctly auto-pick the one I'm after. "Do what I mean"-style mechanics only rarely end up not hitting their mark very well.

In the meantime, there are not really any ambiguous situations.

- fastest to chop a tree
- most damaging to bash something
- shears to shear wool, otherwise highest quality tool if absent
- highest quality to butcher something (exception - you have butcher's cleaver equipped, then don't auto change)
- cleaver for slaughtering (this is missing completely currently)
- scythe for harvesting

Yeah I agree that there are certain common tasks where the priority is obvious.

Loftar has some good points. Instead of fixed priority order, maybe give axes "woodchop" -value based on their effectiveness and make the characters pick the axe based on that? New axes would simply be given a value based on their effectiveness.
