To me the simplest idea is to take the already existing mechanic that drinking non-water drinks at full stamina causes them to restore energy instead, and build on it. I mentioned mixed fruit juice in another thread, but there's also plenty of existing items like Birch Bark, Rose Hips and Carob Pods that can be tossed into a cauldron to make a tasty beverage.

Ok this would be awesome and I agree the drinks help especially when mining. The issue is those don't "Auto Drink" like water does, so you have to manually sit there and catch the drink button 1/4 of the way through chopping a tree down. It's a small inconvenience but totally annoying and no reason why it can't have the same QOL improvement regular water drinking gives.

My last conversations about this were W12 start, so changes may have modified this somewhat.

I feel like a couple of annoying and systemic issues in HnH stem from jorbtar thinking about and playing their own game differently from how the rest of the community does it...

A few additional super foods that don't offer fep but do a huge energy increase could work too.

One food that I can see being easy to implement in some dumbed-down way that could work as an early-game super energy food is pemmican.

Something similar to a pit-baked good, or something to wrap and dry on a rack that is made mainly from starter foragables would be ideal.

Pemican would be thematic at the very least. Preparing it like a pitbaked good would make more sense since it wouldn't be too dissimilar to nutjerky and drying consumables is usually done with a herbalist table. AFAIK drying pemmican over a fire is pretty traditional anyway.

Maybe animal fat + any meat + any berry/fruit? Requiring 4 meat in total would be a decent way to balance it.

Hardtack could be an alternative available a little later in the game.

I would agree. In large part that's why we didn't have toggleable grid lines in the main client, because they didn't want people to play that way because they didn't.

Overall I'm for it if there's modifications to ingame tutorials to accommodate it though. This has been suggested several times as well, can't say I remember jorb/loftar's opinion on it though.

A system message that appears when eating food could say "you ate the food, but did not gain any stats for it. Try eating with a table and chair to increase your stats"

Contextual tutorials are nifty.
