It's not at all unrealistic because there isn't even a sliver of a chance that they can compete against a faction for monoliths/irminsuls. Also big factions could just lock them in and make their realm worthless.

Well obtaining the buffs are pretty low effort for factions to begin with, I imagine people will still make them and acquire some buffs. We obviously would see LESS pvp over realms but we never really saw any to begin with so who cares?
