I don't think he hides anything, I help map the world using his client and he was unhappy with one single mapped area, and was unable to do anything about it.


Surely he wouldn't do anything malicious like that. It's not like he has a history of doing low-key malicious things, like default-sending map locations & hat data of people using his client lmao

If your only justification for the current mess is a third party website making it somewhat tolerable, you're not even arguing that it's good/fun. You're saying it's tolerable when somebody else basically bots the entire system away for you. That's kindof just a long-winded way of saying it's dogshit.

Even if 50% of people liked it (which they absolutely do not), having something so contentious to such a large portion of the user-base be integral to every aspect of the game would be dumb. The stuff half the people hate but some people want to engage with can just be non-mandatory side content like alchemy.

Haven is a unique mmo because of these hard to figure out systems.
Theres too many simplified mmos out there already. Don't push haven into that mold.
Theres plenty of things that can improve the user experience without sacrificing fun discovery mechanics.
Ingredients is one of my top favorite things they added to this game. I only wish they keep adding more types of impactful ingredients.

I love sharing info with people on a good food combo.
Don't take it away from us because you can't figure out the most optimal foods.

The Atelier game series has fantastic crafting systems (usually, ignore Atelier Ryza and its sequel) which require lots of thinking, planning and, in practice, experimentation to craft things really well. They don't use randomness and don't have any unknowable mystery elements; everything is perfectly predictable. Atelier's crafting systems are a lot more interesting because you actually have to figure out how to get trait X onto item Y while retaining effect Z. Haven's food system is mostly just trial and error and autistically recording everything. Making things predictable, if done right, can actually make crafting more skill-based and interesting.

I find alchemy to be really interesting and thought out. For me it looks like it really was inspired by some early alchemical theories. Why not make food system like this ? For example matched stats would give great buff for feps but unmatched would result in increased hunger gain.

We can have cancer in this system too. Make copper pan proc psyche, tin pan proc dex etc. Making top tier food would still require us to collect equipment and ingredients but in much better manner, because you don't have to actually remember all recipes. If you know rules you can generate recipes using your brain power.

Are you implying that I should apply the general rule that things which make the AVERAGE PLAYER feel like they WASTED THEIR TIME should be REMOVED FROM THE GAME?

There is one "feature" of the game that I get more complaints about than food, TBPQH, senpai-fam. ^^

Jorb, players griefing players can be fun/interesting. It's the whole reason a lot of people play. Realizing you spent 20 hours making bear-whatsamawhosits when bear-thingababobas give triple the FEPs, and eating the bear-whatsamawhosits was basically griefing yourself always feels like shit for everybody involved. The game shouldn't grief the player.

Even if figuring out this system were fun (it's not), do you really want these arbitrary knowledge checks on every stage of character development? The higher tier players desperately want more competition, and the lower tier players probably don't want to get shit on so freely, or at least not gain stats at 1/2 my pace when putting in more effort. It's bad for everybody.
