Loftar, i will break those hearth fires for you, just get rid of thignwall spawning.

Couldn't you make it so that hearth fires that are not under a claim will rot out of existance after a long while, like, say, 1 or 2 ingame years?

This is pretty good at first when everyone spawns at the same time and all the new players are like ":O wow, actually played sandbox mmo"
but after the day, that will barely happen, and what will happen more frequently is hearthlings getting clapped in the first minutes of their existance.

We could have an option at creation I guess to please everyone.
My preference lean heavily towards random spawn tho.
I'd bet a good amount of money that people who want centralised spawn want that to kill the spruce.
Personally I dont care, I know how to use vortex and find a not so crowded area but the new steam players will be slaughtered which is terrible for the game long term...
We want them to have fun and stay.

I did consider just having Thingwall spawning on at launch and then turning it off after a day or so. Might that be a happy medium?

Other way around would be better in my opinion

Should probably disable both thingwall spawning and central continent spawning entirely to minimize the spruce genocide.

The new players who were motivated enough to play the first day won't know any better , stay around the starting area and be slaughtered.
You could argue it's a natural selection and HnH being unforgiving they'd leave eventually anyway.
I'm not sure you want the negative reviews being associated with it though.
You only have one steam launch.

I agree with this.

May be worth a try? People get rage rather fast, and they will know where to look to beat up sprucecaps even after the first few hours, but i suppose the damage will be at a minimum while still benefiting from a good first impression of high player density on spawn.
I also forgot that another upside of thingwall spawn is that there will be people around for players to ask stuff and get help, although questionable how often that happens. So this might be a decent middle ground and may be worth testing with.

EDIT: Still, tutorial on how to move your hearth fire would be welcome.

I think thingwall spawning is a pretty cool idea, and it would just be made better if the spawns are simply global and not central tbh. This could potentially have some people spawn on some tiny ocean island though which could be a problem i suppose.
