Yeah, the flags seem a bit too static. How about making it so criminal acts take like 5min to turn on, and broadcasting position of players with criminal acts on like it is with siege weapons? The location indicator turns on immediately, but you can only aggro people after the 5min timer. This way sprucecaps can hearth away before they can get aggrod, and the timer is there to ensure the aggressor can't just switch on criminal acts when they get inside aggro range. And if you're concerned about alts messing with your village you'll naturally just keep criminal acts on 24/7, so it's not really exploitable.

Pvpers log in with criminal acts turned on and never turn it off. Pvp clients usually default to having criminal acts turned on automatically on login.

What's the issue, people waiting to log in with criminal acts on for ambushes? Apply the activation timer on log-in then.

No I mean, the vast majority of situations the pvpers have criminal acts running already. Making any timer/flag/indicator meaningless since they snekkja-ed onto your screen with crim acts already running.

Unless you're having the broadcaster be running beyond view range, which would get cluttered in fights with 20-40 people.

Yeah, the whole point is to have indicators beyond visual range so you can hearth home. Of course it should be possible to toggle it off, just like siege weapon indicators.

I think of the various changes this one probably has the least issues with it. At the same time I don't think it's fixing the core issue so much as providing a bandaid.

Stealing your boat or cart is a good point. I wonder if there is a way to tie objects like those to your character for a short time, say 5 minutes, so anyone that touches those objects would be committing a crime.


now you just need to bandaid the other glaring problems with some other odd mechanic, how to prevent the griefer from cutting down your quest givers? how to prevent the griefer from capping your animals by punching them once? how do you prevent the griefer from blocking your boat with his boat that you cannot touch?

this will kinda ruin pvp - no ambushes, and vandals will always run away long before anyone gets near to catch them

Would be kinda funny having a million alts afk in every river with crim acts on to desensitize everyone so ganking can be possible again.
