THe game as it is today its much less cruel than before and everoyne has access to good mapping, clients, botting, game knowledge. All public tools, ppl might aswell use them and frankly PvP more.
I can tell you that someone like me or my friends, which never did PvP, would not start even if death had no consequence at all (not even losing gear).
Why? Because the risk of death is not what keeps us away.
PvP looks super boring. and I would be forced to play with a client i don't like.
Even worse, it seems pointless to me. The only reason I see to join PvP would be to gain access to something precious or defend my own stuff. But siege is virtually non-existent (and pointless with alt vaults), and aside from meteor (which isn't a "must have") there's nothing to fight over.
To bring people like me and my friends to PvP, they'd need to make PvP interesting.
- Make Siege easier and remove alt vaults, so I have to learn to fight to defend my stuff.
- Make fighting for the Realm really matter to everyone living in it. Off the top of my head, limiting harvesting Localized Resources to those who live in the Realm would likely be a reason to push us to join the fights over territory. (doesn't need to be this, but you get the idea)
- Add more stuff like the meteor, and make it essential for progress. If I needed meteor to build a lvl 9 minehole, I'd consider joining the fights for it. Even better, make it decay quickly, so I can't just buy it from someone who stockpiled it when I will need it.
Only other reason could be revenge. But if I get killed, chances are I'm not good enough to get my revenge anyway. And the current (or even lowered) drawbacks of death, revenge is not really worth my time.
