Why the long standing animosity towards "hermits"? I do not consider myself one, though I usually play solo because the game caters to it. The most fun I've had was as a member of a village; and the least fun I've had was as a member of a village. All too often a village flourishes for a few months then the members lose interest and one at a time leave; those remaining cannot do all the work themselves, sometimes cannot even maintain the claim, so more leave, and eventually the place is abandoned ...and the hermits loot it. Watching your village die is no fun.
I'm here for the long run, playing til the world dies or my character dies. Several worlds back I met another player with similar attitude; we played together across two worlds, building a village in each. We enjoyed it so much our sessions occasionally lasted into the wee hours of the morning, before deciding on 2-3 hours each afternoon and a midnight check on the village and say goodnight. Those two years are the most fun I've ever had in this game.
Of the couple dozen people on my kin list, two are still active, neither are present everyday (one pops in every 10-12 days). The past three days are the first I've missed in this world (no power in town due to a storm Tuesday morning ...using a library computer now). Within a brief ride of my village are numerous villages and farms ...all abandoned. So if I'm considered a "hermit", so be it; it is not by choice but necessity.
