The only thing I don't get is why everybody's whining about someone taking over localized resources.

All means to monopolize them is done by game mechanics.
And can be countered by game mechanics.

See a wall? Siege it.
See an alt HF. Place your own alt and try to be faster.
Resource owner are bigger/botted stats/nolifers/whatever - gather into huge zerg (game has over 500 online now so it is possible to organize 100 people in 1 place and fight if you are persistent enough) and bury them under the pile of your corpses.

If you are too lazy/weak/disorganized/autistic/larper/dontwannamesswithalts - just live with idea that some thigs in game require big effort.
In good old Lineage2 there were really small amount of people having epic jewelry. You had to spend 4-6 hours of uninterrupted online and grind mobs for 10-20 hours to recover your character to its level after that. And that's only to have a chance(if you win) to have a chance that jewel drops to be one of 40-80 people one of which would get it.

Anyways, this response is more to people who whine 'I cannot get these items cause someone tries harder, so let's have them deleted from game.
Regarding the initial Granger's proposal - it would not solve the alts-harvesting problem on one hand but it would make resource farming more 'whose alt is stronger' focus instead of 'who is faster'.
More PVP scenarios and motivators are always appreciated.

Obviously, localized resources when harvested can be used by a harvester only.

Just make it so that a character which has a special resource in inventory stays logged in 8-)

How about these two changes?

1. Remove inspect from localized resources (no timer)
2. Change loc. resource respawn rates to a random value within a range (e.g. salt basin respawns in 3-5 days rather than 3 days flat)

Won't solve the problem of claiming the localized resources, but should even the playing field a bit.

You mean like I won't be able to make a bot that logs onto like 25 chars using 5 clients, rotating every 5mins or maybe a bit more? M8 you'll never ever see localized resources again :)

Yeah, you could counter literally any suggestion with "someone will bot it." Not just this thread and this topic, but any game with any mechanic that people want badly enough to bot for, for whatever reason. Trying to find a solution that perfectly ends botting is impossible, so "people will make a bot" isn't a counterargument, it's just restating the obvious. Rather than try to make botting impossible, you want to try and disincentivize botting as much as you can, whether by increasing the # of obstacles to botting effectively, or removing whatever incentive is making people bot.

For instance, right now people have their fixed salt/etc. alts, and they're more vulnerable due to not having rage, but I guarantee you in time some or maybe even most/all of them will get rage just for that easy revenge. If the botting factions/people are required to make multiple rotating alts, that raises the amount of effort needed to achieve the same result (getting rage on all alts), and there would be some amount, however small, that wouldn't bother.

It's not just that it would still be bottable, it's that you will have 0 chance to compete with bots without timers. Today you can check the node timer, walk to the node and kill the bot, if you take out timers I wish you good luck :)
